Groundbreaking ceremony Penzberg
14 November 2019 | Penzberg, Germany

After the demolition of the more than 40-year-old wave pool, the construction of the new family pool begins at the same place. Mayoress Elke Zehetner described the symbolic ground-breaking ceremony on Thursday afternoon as an “outstanding event”.

In the coming months, about 3300 cubic meters of concrete and 570 tons of steel will be installed and 5000 square meters of tiles laid according to architect Wolfgang Gollwitzer. The opening is scheduled for December 2021.

Mayor Zehetner recalled the long history. Technology and buildings of the old wave pool were outdated, she said. Since 2008 they have dealt with the pool. At that time there was a first feasibility study. After the city transferred the wave pool to Stadtwerke, the board of directors decided to build a new pool instead of renovating the old one on 26 October 2016.
