Nature park pool
Mayrhofen, Austria

The new Naturparkbad Mayrhofen redefines the typology of the alpine leisure pool by placing nature, landscape, and panoramic experience at the center of its architectural idea. Rather than a single monolithic building, the project is conceived as a collection of small, organically shaped pavilions embedded in a generous park-like terrain. This fragmented structure allows the Zillertal’s mountains, forests, and light to flow through the complex, creating a calm, atmospheric setting that reflects the character of the valley. The two-storey ensemble is strategically shifted eastward on the site to open a large sun-facing outdoor area to the southwest, while all interior zones—bathing hall, relaxation areas, sauna world—are oriented toward the spectacular views of Penken, Filzenkogel, and the surrounding peaks.

Inside, each building volume offers a distinct spatial and climatic experience: from the cavernous, north-lit sports pool to the forest-inspired relaxation hall with its 270° panorama, and from the lively family and adventure pool to the intimate, introverted sauna garden. Natural materials such as timber, stone, and earthy finishes create a tactile connection to the region, while the round pavilion geometry avoids hard edges and fosters a sense of openness and flow. The result is a contemporary, year-round wellness landscape that feels both embedded in and elevated by its alpine setting—an immersive Naturparkbad that strengthens Mayrhofen’s identity and offers a future-oriented contribution to the region’s tourism infrastructure.
