Pavilions in the camping site of Munich
Thalkirchen, Munich

The redevelopment of the Thalkirchen campsite centers on a modular timber architecture that integrates harmoniously with its park-like, tree-filled landscape. At the heart of the concept is the “architectural tree”—a repeated structural module that forms a spatial field across the site. This element shapes the façades, defines the rhythm of the buildings, and helps anchor the architecture within its natural surroundings. The entrance building becomes the site’s landmark and gateway, with circular clusters of architectural trees creating a porous, inviting structure that hosts reception, guest spaces, restaurant, beer garden, and administration. The sanitary buildings translate the same motif into simpler geometric forms, with detached tree-structures offering sheltered waiting zones and clear points of orientation.

Constructed in prefabricated timber, all buildings emphasize sustainability, efficiency, and a strong connection to nature. Green roofs, façade greening, and integrated solar energy systems reinforce the ecological approach. The repeating architectural tree reduces construction complexity while creating a unified identity across the site. With buildings meeting strict energy standards and fully accessible layouts, the project establishes a coherent, future-ready environment where modular timber structures and a distinctive architectural motif shape both place and experience.
